Where is China's 5G core competitiveness? Why is it that on February 23, 2019, renowned observer of China's communication industry, Xiang Ligang, gave a keynote speech at the Guan Academy on "Why 5G has become the focus of the big country game". Focusing on the past and present of 5G, as well as China's exploration and development in the 5G field, Xiang Ligang stated that the most impressive country in the 5G field is China.

The following is an introduction to the key points of the speech organized by the Guan Academy.
5G is a revolution, and the New York Times has written about it as a new generation of "arms race", believing that whoever controls 5G can lead others in terms of economy, military, and intelligence.
First generation mobile communication, preemptive in the United States
Chips, operating systems, routers, browsers, internet architecture, PC architecture... everything is defined in the United States. The most famous big companies in the world, such as IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Google, Cisco... are all American companies, so the entire internet is a process led by the United States, giving the United States an advantageous position in various aspects of politics, economy, and culture.
Second generation mobile communication, emerging from behind in Europe
Europe united and established an organization called GSMA to develop its own standard GSM. In this process, the world has emerged with three major standards: CDMA in the United States, GSM in Europe, and PHS in Japan, all competing for the largest market - China.
Third generation mobile communication, China debuts
Whose standard should 3G be based on? The United States and Europe are at loggerheads. Later, the United States joined forces with China to fight against Europe, and China's 3G standard eventually became an international standard, which led to our initial technological accumulation.
Have you all cursed China's TD-SCDMA? Many of us have cursed, why do we think the Chinese government is doing its own thing? Why can't we keep up with international standards? Why not follow European and American standards? During this process, there was a group of Chinese scientists who gritted their teeth under pressure despite being criticized, and the Chinese government also supported these scientists. When China Mobile launched TD-SCDMA, everyone was also dissatisfied and said that China Mobile was not good, but we gritted our teeth and still walked on.
Fourth generation mobile communication, China has the best 4G network in the world
When it comes to 4G standards, China and Europe joined forces to squeeze out the United States, so the 4G standards are two major systems, TD-LTE and FDD-LTE. China has the best 4G network in the world, and its mobile payments and e-commerce have also developed the best, improving the efficiency of the entire Chinese society.
There are reports that China's internet speed ranks 189th in the world, and we all believe that China's internet is very poor. What is the real situation? Do you know how many 4G base stations there are in the United States? 300000 yuan. How many are there in China? 3.5 million, plus 2G and 3G base stations, there are a total of 6.1 million base stations. So in any place in China, we assume that there is an internet presence.
5G is here, the foundation of mobile internet
What is 5G? Many people believe that it is high speed, but in addition, there are some other characteristics.
High speed
The current online live streaming has an upload speed of 6-8 megabytes and a download speed of only 50 megabytes. Our definition of 5G speed is as follows: a single machine has a speed of 20 gigabytes, and each user may reach a speed of 1 gigabyte. However, the actual situation may not be as good, but I believe our upload speed can reach 500 megabytes, and the download speed can reach around a few hundred megabytes. This means that each of you is a television station and can play high-definition videos.
Many of us believe that we ordinary people don't necessarily need 5G anymore, we just need 4G. Don't think so, Chinese people are the most fashionable people in the world.
Ubiquitous network
An example of ubiquitous applications is smart homes, such as smart toilets:
After you finish urinating, I will immediately give you a routine urine test with 13 indicators, and I found that your uric acid is constantly increasing. I said you are about to get gout, and I will send you a WeChat message for lunch, saying you cannot drink beer or eat seafood
low power consumption
Well covers are often stolen and often broken. If we have smart well covers, we install a metal tool on each well cover. If any problems occur, information will be sent, and we can immediately repair and replace them. But if it weren't for low power consumption, it would be unrealistic to replace the battery every day.
Low latency
At the lecture, it takes 100 milliseconds for you to hear my voice, but you won't feel that there is a delay in my speech because the human response to the delay is 140 milliseconds. This speed cannot adapt to future practical life, such as unmanned driving.
Our 2G network now has a response time of 140 milliseconds, 3G networks require approximately 100 milliseconds, and 4G networks require 20-80 milliseconds.
And 5G only takes 1 millisecond.
Internet of Things
Do you know how many mobile phones there are in China now? We basically estimate that by 2025, it will be around 10 billion. All of our communication experts' judgments are lagging behind reality. They once predicted that there would be 200000 mobile phone users in China by 2000, but the actual situation is that by 2000, there would have been over 20 million mobile phone users in China.
What is the future terminal? Cars, streetlights, manhole covers, your doorways, refrigerators, washing machines, air purifiers, smoking machines... all of these devices need to become system terminals.
Refactoring security
5G will rebuild its intelligent transportation system. If there is 5G, perhaps it can avoid the bus accident in Wanzhou, Chongqing last year. When the driver intentionally changes direction, the intelligent control center will determine that the vehicle has deviated from the predetermined digital track, and the low latency network will immediately issue a command to brake, causing the 200 cars behind the bus to also brake at the same time, thereby avoiding the occurrence of tragedy.
It is often said online that the Republic of China produced many masters, but now there are no, why? Because masters are information monopolists. The emergence of silicon has broken this situation. Mobile phones can store much more information than libraries.
In the 5G field, no one in China can match it
There is only one country in the world that can combine all the capabilities of chip system equipment, base station equipment, terminal business, and so on, which is China.
Which is the most powerful company in this field? It's Huawei.
The United States once demanded that the "Five Eyes Alliance" not use Huawei equipment, but in the end, Huawei relied on its own technology, cost-effectiveness, and investment to win back orders from those countries. Finally, the British intelligence agency stated that Huawei's security is controllable and we do not rule out Huawei equipment. Even Trump admits that in order to encourage competition, the United States does not exclude Huawei equipment.
So, to be down-to-earth and do a good job in products, technology, and leading others is our core competitiveness. Is China the best in the 5G field?
